It has been a long time since I wrote a project for the ATM. It has been equally slow in Metku.net too so it was about time to do something about it. This brief project is for those who like to find an alternative use for an old laptop. Normally a computer that have a hard time even loading the operating system after booting is heading for the dumpster but perhaps now you can breath new life to it. At least give it a new purpose! The laptop  For this project I'll be using an old Dell. This 650 MHz Celeron machine with 128 megabytes of RAM is totally useles for even the most basic office work and web surfing. A perfect candicate for our little hack job. If you have a laptop from different manufacturer, the majority of the steps that we are going to take are the same. Naturally the screws will not be at the same places but I won't be going to that level on this article.  First, take off the bezel covering the display panel. In this model there were small round stickers facing the user that hid the screws.  I had to remove the keyboard to get to the hinge of the display. Just take it slow and be careful and everything should work out just fine. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the display panel will be located at the back of the laptop from now on. This is the reason why we needed to strip the display part bare.  The cable connecting the display panel and the GFX adapter on the motherboard of the laptop used to be routed via one of the hinges. I wanted to alter the route a bit and took out my trusty Dremel Stylus and made wide enough opening at the back of the casing to feed the cable through...  |
